I just checked in with my local TV news station’s website and what a morning! Two strong stories about food and health.
We can’t help it, we are what we eat. The more natural, organic, non-GMO food we eat, the healthier we are, the better we feel. Why? Because we are eating the way our bodies were designed to. In my opinion, “manufactured” and “food” should never be in the same sentence.
I’ve been following the trials and tribulations of Jennifer Castro on her mission to lose two pounds a week. She’s been doing great! Even when the scale (which can wreak havoc with our confidence and progress) throws her seemingly off course, she maintains her focus on the long-term goal of losing 20 pounds. And, she’s doing it! She is making lifestyle changes and not doing anything extreme.
What does that mean? It means she will be able to maintain the weight loss.
Of course, no story about weight loss in Alaska would be complete without reference to Kai Hibbard, our own Biggest Loser heroine. She has learned a lot about extrememes and healthy lifestyle choices. She says it best when she says, “thin is not the new happy, healthy is the new happy.” (Click here for more about the dangers of The Biggest Loser).
Eating healthy, giving your body what it wants and needs to feel good is MUCH more important than being skinny.
How do you know what your body needs? Listen to it and it will tell you. How do you feel after eating at McDonald’s? How do you feel after you’ve had a light meal focused on veggies and lean meat? How do you feel after eating a bag of potato chips? Don’t just answer this off the top of your head. Spend today really focusing on how you feel 30 minutes to an hour after you eat something. Your body tells you what it likes.
This morning’s news also brought a story about a recall of potato chips and onion rings. Popular brands, trusted names…possible salmonella. Even without the salmonella, your body doesn’t feel good post-chips. Which brings me back to “manufactured” and “food” should never be in the same sentence.
