As I mentioned in my last blog, I’ve recently
moved. Not very far…more or less across the
street. I’m still in my favorite little Alaskan
ski town, no move to the big city for me.
In my quest for constant improvement, I decided to
ditch my “antiquated” land line and my DSL for the
sleeker, more modern, and more portable “Internet
key.”
And, while I won’t disparage any one
company, I will say, Don’t Try This At Home!
I’ve gone from a click and maybe a 1-second wait
for something to pop up onto my screen to literally
3-5 minute waits for things to change.
Oh, the torture! Dramatic, I know, but really, it
has been something of a nightmare. Not to mention
it’s been snowing non-stop and my e-mails don’t
seem to have gotten through letting you know that
I couldn’t escape my driveway, much less navigate
the Seward Highway.
What does all of this have to do with your health
and fitness? Well, in addition to spending more time than
and fitness? Well, in addition to spending more time than
I like, sitting, laptop on my lap, staring at a screen,
all of this inactivity is never a good thing for me
or for you. What’s a body to do?
Get up, of course!
Do Try This At Home…While waiting for pages and info
to download, I got up from the couch and did squats,
to download, I got up from the couch and did squats,
pushups, triceps dips, lunges. I also grabbed my dumb-
bells, used my resistance bands. Anything to move my
body and make the time seem to go faster.
And, yes, I admit that it’s easy for me to be active in
my avalanche-entrapped home as I’ve got lots of toys to
play with.
…Or In Your Office. But, you can do the same thing in your office.
Reading a memo? Stand up from your desk and move around
the room. Listening to a conference call? Do some
lunges or squats. Use your desk to do push-ups, lift
and lower that 1500-page report you’re supposed to
be reading for biceps curls.
My point is you don’t need a gym or equipment to get
your daily exercise. Remember, all movement is good
movement. Your day will go faster and you’ll feel
better at the end of it.
Oh, and my DSL returns on Monday:)
Wishing you great health!
