Back from Vacation!

I’m back to boot camp after going on a cruise with my mother and sisters.

Of course, I had a wonderful, relaxing vacation. After what everyone said about the food on a cruise, I was surprised…the food was unbearable!  I  am so glad to be back!

My welcome back workout was not as bad as I thought it was going to bed and Chris definitely worked us. I had a few muscles screaming at me but I felt great later.

I accomplished my first goal of looking better in my bathing suit in time for the cruise.  My next goal is getting back to my ideal weight. I have no other vacation plans ahead of me, my only drive is getting back into life.

Wendi Gets Nutrition On Track

Here I am, two months into personal training and the results were not what I had been hoping for.  I’ve been feeling stronger and clothes have been fitting better, but the body-fat changes I was hoping for weren’t happening.  In fact, I’ve been losing the muscle mass I’ve been working so hard to get.  Why suffer through Chris’ fun but brutal workouts only to lose muscle?

I think I had fallen in to the mindset that know that I’m working out more I don’t have to pay too much attention to what I’m eating and drinking.  Chris and Ginny both warned me that I needed to make some changes to what I was eating, but I thought, “Right, I know what I’m doing.”  Turns out, I had no idea what I was doing!

Ginny suggested I come in and go through the Resting Metabolic Rate testing and get on the AlaskaFit KickStart Nutrition plan (they have this amazing machine that actually told me exactly how many calories I should be eating and then gave me a meal plan that tells me what and when to eat AND a shopping list so I can just go buy what I need…super-easy!)

So, with Ginny’s help I have made some changes in my nutrition and it’s amazing the difference I’m feeling in just one week!  I’m eating breakfast for the first time in 15 years!  It was a hard adjustement but it’s really working.  I have more energy all day long for work and for my work outs.  I have started upping my cardio between personal training sessions and am now able to run 3 miles at time!  Huge progress for me.

The nutrition component AlaskaFit offers is really comprehensive and easy to follow.  I’m loving it!!  Thanks AlaskaFit!

Lost: 6 Inches and 4.5 Pounds!

I am feeling great! I have more energy and am eating the right foods.

I know I wouldn’t workout on my own so I am really grateful for boot camp and the friends that I have made.  I like being with a group of people that want to get their energy and life back.

I am doing push-ups which I never thought I would do. I am working to do push-ups on my toes instead of my knees…and the same goes for my side planks.

I feel great when I run and I seem to have more energy.

Here’s the best part: I weighed in and got remeasured last week.  I’ve lost 4.5 lbs and 6 inches!  I can’t wait to go on my cruise now!  I can actually see the results in my face and in the way my clothes are fitting me.

Exercise is Becoming a Habit!

Ten weeks of training and I’m really noticing results…  I feel so much stronger in my work outs and definitely toning up!  Yay:)

I find the hardest part of the work out is getting there, but once I’m going it feels great and I’m done before I know it.

It’s starting to feel a part of my weekly routine and I don’t like missing any work outs.

Chris’ expertise in guiding my fitness program has been amazing!  He knows just when to push me to get a little more out of each exercise without taking it too far…

Can’t wait for my next weigh in with Ginny to see how its working!!  Tune in next week!

One More Successful Week!

What a week!  My husband and kids just returned from visiting family on the east coast for a month, my school work piled up and, of course, my regular work here at AlaskaFit.  But I did find a way to keep up with my Boot Camp workouts…it’s a good thing they’re at 3 different times during the day…it let’s me work it in when I can.

I just got some new Energy Chews from Shaklee and wow! what a difference they make.  Due to some family events, I only got 3 hours of sleep last night.  I had an Energy Chew right before Boot Camp this morning (I still can’t believe I made it to camp!) and I felt good enough to make it through the workout and then run some errands before getting back home.

Next week is my next weigh-in.  Last time I lost inches…this time, I’m hoping for a few pounds.  Wish me luck!

Back from Vacation and Back to the Gym!

Wow… today’s work out was hard.  I went on a business trip and missed my sessions last week.  I packed my suitcase with running shoes and work out clothes feeling sure there would be time for a couple walks or 30 minutes of interval exercises in my room but none of that happened.

So I woke up this morning knowing that I had a session with Chris and I just wanted to cancel.  I was behind at work and feeling sluggish and like I’d lost all the progress I’d made over the past 6 weeks.  But, I went.  I was late, but I got there dreading what was surely to be an awful work out.  It was hard to get going but then it didn’t feel so bad and then it was over and now I feel great and ready to get back at it!!!

I love the commitment I have made to Alaskafit and to my own fitness.

Seeing the Changes

I am still loving the workouts.  Even I’m surprised at that.  I am not giving up and I can feel myself getting stronger!

I’m getting compliments from friends and yes, I love it. I still don’t like burpies but am getting better at them, especially when Chris or Mike show me how to do them right.

The truth is, I wouldn’t be exercising if someone wasn’t there to correct me and keep me motivated; or without people around that are determined to get in to shape like me.

I loved the nutrition class and the supermarket tour! I learned a lot.  I never look at the ingredients on the label when I’m shopping  Instead I would like at the outside wrapping (or as Ginny says, the marketing). Now I know what to look for…no high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavor/colors and be careful of foods high in sugar. Read the ingredients, not just the nutrition label.  Great information!

My first weigh-in is tomorrow…stay tuned for my results!

You Are What You Eat Part II

My workouts are going so great!  After only six weeks and I tell the difference in my body’s strength and cardio endurance. I was able to do a 2.5 mile run, first time in 10 years! And, I can outlast both my boys doing planks!

It can be so hard to get to the workouts at Powerhouse with Chris. I can think of so many other things I should be doing at that time not to mention feeling tired and stressed.   Then 10 minutes into the workout I lose track of the time, focus on the exercises and before I know it we’re done and I’m feeling good, a lot less stressed and way more energized. I feel like committing to this personal training is a turning point for me toward lifelong fitness.

The missing peice in this process has been ignoring the nutrition side of it. I’ve never been a bad eater but I’m learning that I need to eat more to get the results I want. My body fat and weight were actually increasing.  Fortunately, I’ve also had a muscle mass increase but really, not the results I wanted.

Ginny was so helpful with nutrition advice explaining why I need to increase my calorie intake so that my body would have the nutrients and calories it needed to build and repair muscle and prevent my body from going into starvation mode and begin to store body fat.  I can’t believe I have to eat more to lose body fat!

I’ve got a great new app on my iPhone and today I start to track calorie intake and I’m super-excited to see how my new nutrition practices along with my work outs with Chris get me to the overall goal of becoming a lean fit mom for life!

Thanks Alaskafit!

You Are What You Eat Part I

Boot Camp is GREAT! I am seeing results, my fellow boot campers are seeing results and I feel wonderful.

I am eating right and learning a lot about nutrition as I start to make healthier choices.  I’m learning a lot about my bad choices, too.  Here’s something really cool…because of my healthy eating, my hair and nails are thick and growing fast!

Every morning, I am drinking my Shaklee Cinch shake for breakfast; snacking on whole wheat crackers, yogurt, or fruit.  I have a salad for lunch or a peanut butter on whole wheat sandwich; and for dinner I would have a larger salad, fish, or some chicken.

I did spoil myself with some ribs and potato salad at a barbeque over the weekend and I balanced it with a big bowl of blueberries and strawberries. :)

The great thing about this month is that I have no excuse not to work out. My kids are on vacation so there are no obstacles keeping me from reaching my goal. I plan on working more on my arms because that is where I am weakest.

Right now, I loathe push-ups, burpies, planks (really anything that involves me putting weight on my arms) but I know that doing these exercises will make my arms tight and stronger (and looking better for the tank tops I will be wearing on my cruise).

I have carpal tunnel syndrome and I am noticing that I am feeling less tension this problem area.  I am feeling good!

I even went to the gym on Friday…ON-MY-OWN and worked out for 1 hour.  I am really proud of myself.

Come join me and you, too, can start feeling better right now! July Boot Camp begins tomorrow (Wednesday).  Click here to register or call me at 783-1241.

Michele Survives Week 2 and Is Rewarded With Great Improvements!

I can honestly say that week 2 was not my finest…but I made it. I missed the Monday session, however, I came out ready to work out on Wednesday and it was rainy. Woo Hoo!

We worked out around the lake doing some cardio work and moved on to strengthening workouts. I also made it to camp on Friday and came out to the Solstice Boot Camp on Saturday. It was great time.

I did notice that when we were doing the sprints, I was a little short of breath…I wasn’t breathing right which does take practice. I am enjoying all the help I am getting from Chris with my posture and how to position my body.  Today,  I was able work through my workout without having to take a puff of my inhaler! I corrected my breathing and was very attentive to Chris’s instuction.

Oh, and here’s my “before” picture. I can’t wait to see the “after” in a few months!
